{"id":8405,"date":"2020-06-25T22:53:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T17:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cpimwb.glohtesting.com\/?p=8405"},"modified":"2020-06-25T22:53:20","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T17:23:20","slug":"cpim-polit-bureau-statement-on-decision-of-central-takeover-of-cooperative-banks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cpimwb.glohtesting.com\/en\/cpim-polit-bureau-statement-on-decision-of-central-takeover-of-cooperative-banks\/","title":{"rendered":"CPI(M) Polit Bureau Statement On Decision of Central Takeover of Cooperative Banks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>June 25, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Press Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued <br>\nthe following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Withdraw Ordinance: Scrap the Decision of Central Takeover of Cooperative Banks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) condemns the unilateral decision by the <br>\ncentral government to take over the supervision of 1540 urban and <br>\nrural cooperative banks through an ordinance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This decision has been taken without consulting any of the elected <br>\nstate governments when the cooperative sector including banks are <br>\nsupervised by the state governments. This is yet another attack on our <br>\ncountry\u2019s federal structure. Such over-centralisation is an assault on <br>\none of the basic features of our Constitution, federalism. This <br>\ntotally destroys the autonomy of the cooperatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently there are 8.4 crores of account holders and Rs. 4.5 lakh <br>\ncrores of deposits in these banks. It is clear that this BJP central <br>\ngovernment is also eying this huge corpus of money to be siphoned off <br>\nby it like it did with the RBI reserve fund earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cooperative sector and its banks are the backbone in many parts of <br>\nthe country, rural areas and particularly agriculture. With the <br>\ndeposits now being available to be disbursed by the central <br>\ngovernment, it is clear that the rich, with greater capacities to <br>\nborrow, will benefit at the expense of the poor. This will further <br>\ndestroy the support for livelihood of crores of our people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is indeed ironic that this ordinance was passed on the 45th <br>\nanniversary of internal emergency in the country.
