{"id":10123,"date":"2020-09-15T02:09:42","date_gmt":"2020-09-14T20:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cpimwb.glohtesting.com\/?p=10123"},"modified":"2020-09-15T02:09:43","modified_gmt":"2020-09-14T20:39:43","slug":"condemn-these-arrests-cpim-polit-bureau-statement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cpimwb.glohtesting.com\/en\/condemn-these-arrests-cpim-polit-bureau-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Condemn These Arrests &#8211; CPI(M) Polit Bureau Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monday, September 14, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPolit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following\nstatement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\narrest of Umar Khalid under the provisions of the draconian UAPA is condemnable.\nThis comes following the detention, under UAPA, of Natasha Narwal, Devangana\nKalita (JNU), Ishrat Jahan, a former Councillor of the Congress Party, Jamia\nstudents Meeran Haider also an RJD youth leader, Asif Tanha, Safoora Zagar and\nGulfisha Fatima and Shifr-ul-Rehman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Top\nBJP leaders who made hate speeches and incited violence are protected by the\nCentral Government, while young peaceful protesters against the CAA are being\ntargeted and arrested citing the utterly manufactured version of the country\u2019s\nHome Ministry and the Delhi Police linking anti-CAA protests with communal\nviolence. The Central Government must stop the practice of the Special Branch\nsummoning anti-CAA activists for questioning and trying to coerce them into\nimplicating those targeted by the Home Ministry and the Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nuse of UAPA is to block the normal processes of justice by which they would\nhave been out on bail since, as many of the lower courts have mentioned, there\nis not a shred of evidence against any of them for inciting violence. The\narrests constitute an assault on the constitutional guarantees of the\ndemocratic right to dissent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nCPI(M) has opposed the CAA-NRC-NPR from the beginning both in Parliament and\noutside in multiple protests throughout the country. It reiterates its strong\nopposition. It expresses its solidarity with all those facing the repression of\nthe Central Government.
